Every month the Moon travels in her orbit completely around the Earth. The three dimensional reality of our universe comes alive in a graceful celestial ballet as the Moon swings through the Earth's shadow and this is a Lunar Eclipse.
This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned with the Earth in the middle, when the Moon is on the far side of the Earth from the Sun. Or, when there is a Full Moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes. Unlike a Solar Eclipse, a Lunar Eclipse can be observed from nearly an entire hemisphere.
There are three types of lunar eclipses: penumbral, when the Moon crosses only the Earth's penumbra; partial, when the Moon crosses partially into the Earth's urbra; and total, when the Moon crosses entirely within the Earth's umbra. Total Lunar Eclipses pass through all three phases. Unlike Solar Eclipses, Lunar Eclipses are completely safe to watch. Protective filters are not necessary and neither is a telescope. A Lunar Eclipse can be observed with nothing more than the naked eye. A pair of binoculars will magnify the view, make the red coloration brighter and easier to see.
On February 21, 2008 a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will occur as the Moon passes through the constellation of Virgo. At exactly 3:27am the Sun will be moving opposite the Moon through the constellation of Pisces 1º53’. The Earth will be at exactly the same degree in Pisces blocking the light of the Sun to the Moon as it falls in direct alignment at 1º53’ with the Sun and Moon.
Earthlings tend to be more emotionally expressive during a Full Moon. A Lunar Eclipse emphasizes this emotional reaction!! Psychic sensitivity, spiritual instincts and emotional connectedness are aroused by this eclipse as the environment becomes a little unstable. Creative and artistic qualities will be discovered. This unstable environment occurs because there is change in the electromagnetic energy that affects us neurologically and mentally. There will be some stress initially as blockages in many parts of our lives will begin to crumble and then there will be a feeling of freedom.
This Full Moon is full of promise and opportunity. All Full Moons bring matters to fulfillment as the cosmic light shines brighter to show us things we need to see. Eclipses always mean crises. Now, crisis is not necessarily a bad thing. At the very least, a phase of our life ends and a new one begins. Whatever part of your life is not in sync with your true life’s purpose will show the most change.
This Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs on a Pisces/Virgo polarity point calling us to put aside worry and fear and embrace our faith. The Moon is approaching retrograde Saturn in Virgo indicating that it is wise to review past patterns and seek mentorship with those we trust as we move through our daily lives. This Virgo Moon is trine to Pluto as it disappears from sight! Acknowledge the power of the Unseen!
